A quick imaging test of the kidneys, ureters and bladder, commonly used to look for urinary stones and other abnormalities.
A KUB X-ray images the kidneys, ureters and bladder in a single view of the lower abdomen. It is often used to look for kidney or ureteric stones, to check the position of stents or tubes, and to assess the abdomen in people with urinary symptoms.
Many urinary stones show up on a KUB X-ray, although some are too small or do not show clearly. In such cases the urologist may recommend an ultrasound or another scan alongside it.
At Apollo Clinic Shyamnagar, the KUB X-ray is quick and painless, and the urologist reviews the image with you, often during the same visit.
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Duration | 5–10 minutes |
| Preparation | Usually none; wear loose clothing without metal, and inform the staff if there is any chance you could be pregnant |

No. Many stones are visible, but some are too small or do not show well on X-ray, so an ultrasound or another scan may be added.
It uses a small dose of radiation and is considered safe when medically needed. Tell the staff beforehand if you are or might be pregnant.
